Beefy Boys: www.the beefyboys.com Tel: 01743 535047

“Just four backyard amateur cooks sharing a passion for local produce and dirty American-style burgers and BBQ”.

The business started in 2011, originally opening in Hereford. These guys quickly won the UK’s biggest BBQ competition – Grillstock - winning the coveted title of Best Burger in 2014. Their YouTube channel gives a good indication as to the personality of the place and food!

Their food uses 100% Hereford beef, sourced from local butchers Neil Powell and local farmer Johnny Morris. Their burgers are 100% meat! No egg, no fillers, no breadcrumbs - just two choice cuts of 21-day aged beef ground fresh every day and never frozen. We love eating here and can thoroughly recommend their menu, especially their specialty burgers (they also do some great vegetarian options). Book a table or collect from the store.

Walrus www.the-walrus.co.uk Tel: 01743 240005

Want to give yourself that special holiday treat and try a Michelin starred restaurant? Young chef-owners Ben and Carla run this two-floored restaurant in the heart of Shrewsbury. You can sit downstairs to watch them in action in their open kitchen.

Modern and ambitious cooking plays with flavours and contrasting textures to produce an outstanding fresh and seasonal menu. They have their own garden and grow much of the produce that they serve.

Hickorys all started when the owners took a road trip around the Southern States of America. Here they encountered the cooking, inspiration, passion and “good-old” Southern hospitably, which they blended to create the Hickorys experience. All their food is cooked and smoked on “smokers” imported from Missouri and Tennessee to keep that authentic flavour. They learnt how to cook and barbecue great Southern food from the BBQ Pitmasters they encountered in America. Take your choice of The Great American Breakfast, Chicken Fried Waffle, or Smoked Pork and Poached Eggs for brunch (11-2pm). Or, something more substantial, later in the day, such as Go Big or Go Home Burger, Texas Style Beef Dip Sun or Smoked Kansas Style Pork Ribs! One road trip was just the start, but enjoy great American smokehouse food at Hickorys!

“One journey was never going to be enough, so every year we scour the backroads & highways from Missouri to Mississippi in the name of new recipes to take home. We’re now roughly up to 18 trips to over 70 towns & cities across the states & counting…”

We couldn’t leave off our list a place where you can get a great pizza! But, this is not just a pizza place, it’s a family-run tapas restaurant and garden bar in the heart of Frankwell in Shrewsbury.

With a secret courtyard garden, it’s an ideal spot to relax, drink and eat to your heart's content. The garden is bursting with flowers and olive trees, and is a great sun trap during the peak summer months. The menu has a Mediterranean focus, and has the best vegetarian and vegan options in town!

We particularly like the sharing boards and can recommend the coppa, squid, and salmon tapas.

Make sure you take your time and enjoy!
